Well it’s T-Mobile Tuesday once again and this marks the one week anniversary of me ditching AT&T after a decade of being a loyal customer.
Growing up unless you had a Sidekick, T-Mobile was looked at like a cut rate carrier. I’m happy to report that’s not really the case anymore. And I don’t think it’s been that way for some time.
This was the perfect week to sample my new service as I was going to be traveling around all of my favorite spots, not only in Philadelphia, but New Jersey as well.
Here are some screen shots of the results of Speed Tests done throughout the week. You’ll notice that they average well over 30Mbps at most times. (please forgive the wifi icon on the screen shots. I was on wifi when I took the screen shots not when I performed the tests)
The most impressive was the 60Mbps when I was on the Market-Frankford Line (Philadelphia’s underground subway).
I’d have to say one of my favorite things about making a switch to an Unlimited plan was being able to go into my iPhone settings and allow any and all apps to use data since I no longer was afraid of going over my limit. Also, as a big Spotify user I could now stream online music with the same lack of worry.
With that being said I used a whopping 4.2Gb of T-Mobile data in 7 days. Now keep in mind since I was traveling my Wifi usage was minimal.
Another interesting thing to note is the time the phone spent searching for a signal. Now the only time I’ve noticed it didn’t have service is in my old basement office (where I didn’t get AT&T either) plus I’m always on wifi so with wifi calling and iMessage I really went on without noticing. It is worth noting however that over the course of the last 7 days the phone spent 5% of it’s battery life trying to find that signal.
I did not particularly notice the battery drain but that could have been in part of the Apple Smart Battery Case, I was using for some of the week.
The most important thing is that I finally feel like I’m using the phone in the way that Steve Jobs envisioned. Without limitations!
